"LETTUCE DAYS" in YUMA, what else???

Well, we have lived in Alliston, during Potato Festival, and we lived in Gravenhurst during "Steamship Days", and over the years have attended all kinds of Festivals, but never do I remember going to "Lettuce Days" in Yuma, Az. However, this area is certainly the Lettuce Capital of the world! It is growing everywhere, and all different kinds!

The days started with nothing but Sun, and that is the way it ended, nothing but Sun....love it! We started the day by going to Church this morning which was excellent.... Judy took a pic of the Church for you....It is a Lutheran Church and is only a 5 minute drive from our Resort.

After Church, we stopped at Jack in the Box, for a nice lunch, well, it was actually one of their breakfast Items... called a "Denver Bowl", but it was real good and filled you up. We then headed the 10 miles into Yuma to attend "Lettuce Days" which was going on in what they call "Old Yuma". It is down by the "Ocean to Ocean Bridge" and is close enough to California, that you can throw a stone and hit one of the "Beach Boys"...

The Festival was packed with people.... couldn't believe it! Very well attended, and as you can tell by the colour of the sky, it was real hard to take walking around to all the booths...

This gal was dancing to "Bollywood" type music, she had all the moves and drew quite a crowd...

There was lots of booths that sold these brass type items of art.... they were nice, this one was quite large, and would mount on your wall...

Judy was checking it all out... hard for us to buy this stuff, even though we like it, as we have no where to put it, and no where to store it.... :-((

These next two pictures are for our Daughter, Kristina, who just loves sheep! The Yuma 4H Club was at Lettuce Days, and apparently brought their sheep... not quite sure why????

And at the end of the Main Street, there was a huge Crane and they had the Stars and Stripes flying proud!

We carried on shopping down at the Arizona Market, and finished by doing Groceries at Wallmart.... after all that we had to go to the hot tub of course!

We met a nice couple from Germany in the hot tub, and they spend six month of winter in the U.S.A. and then 6 months at home in Germany. They bought a big pick up and a 5th wheel trailer.

Tomorrow we may head up to Quartzite, which is where all the RV's accumulate over the winter to see how things are going up there.

We only have a few days left in Yuma, as we head out to Tucson on Friday morning!

"Here comes the sun....."

Yes, our sun came back to Arizona today in a big way. It was beautiful. Not all that warm, maybe around 17 or 18 degrees today, but none the less, a great day.

We were waiting this morning for a Company called USA Shades, to come into the park and replace the slide out toppers on both our slide outs. As mentioned yesterday in the blog, they have simply worn out in the sun and weather, and had started to rip. The guy said he would be here between 9 and 12, however, at 12:30 he didn't make it so I called his cell. He apologized and indicated he would be here within an hour. He did show up and got to work right away to replace the two toppers. It took him about 1 hour, maybe a bit longer, but he did a terrific job. We were glad to get these replaced, as they help prevent water from seeping into the RV through the top of the slide outs. They should now be good for quite a few years. The material he used is better quality than the original stuff, so here is hoping!

Judy was on camera today and took this pic of the rear slide out in the bedroom. You can see the new topper above the slide.

This is our living room slide, and you can see the new topper on it as well.... we are now all set.

After the guy was finished we enjoyed reading outside in the sun, and before you know it, it was 4:00 and time for happy hour and the hot tub! I had to get back to the RV in time for the Leaf game of course which starts at 5:00 down here. Ya, they lost again, it was pretty sad... :-((

Judy could not stand the excitement of the game, so she went on a bicycle tour out in the desert. She wanted to see if stuff was growing in the desert after the big rain. She took a couple pictures and by the looks of things, not much was growing....

She was down at the irrigation canal just north of our park, and it looks quite full to me after the rain...

She decided to go into another park close to ours, to check it out for us to possibly stay there next year. This is the pool area, and she thought it was pretty good. We may take a closer look later.

Thanks for taking pictures today Judy, as I did not even take one! You would think I was on holidays!

We had a 1/2 hour skype with Kristina and Chris, and all looks to be going well with the new dog. It is obvious they have paid attention to the teachings of Caesar Millan, aka Dog Whisperer. They are the PACK LEADERS! Good work guys... Caesar would be proud of you!

Clean up day!

The sun came out first thing this morning but it was still a bit cool. At least it was not raining.... We decided to go into clean up mode with the sun. I started by sweeping up the leaves outside on our patio, it was hard, there had to be 60 or 70 of them.... took me at least 3 or 4 minutes, could hardly handle the pace... Judy was on clean up inside, and laundry, (dirty job, someone has to do it!). After I got rid of the leaves I got my trusty bottle of windex out and started into cleaning the exterior of the RV. It was dirty. The wind was blowing while it rained and that means dirt all over everthing down here... Got it all cleaned up by lunch time. Come on... look.... you can almost see the beads of sweat on my forehead...

We went for a ride after lunch on the motorcycles. I heard about another mountain trail to climb, however we had problems finding it. It was out on the Yuma Proving Grounds, and they got washed out in the rain. They have a huge chain link fence around part of thier property, and it was wased out to the point of lying on the ground. Never did find the trail I was looking for... all of a sudden it got ugly in the sky again so we headed back into Yuma. Picked up a "take and bake" pizza for dinner. After dinner we watched quite a bit of the Haiti special. It was good, lots of good artists.... read on the Hughes Net Home page, they found a 22 year old guy today in the rubble, who is still alive....after 10 days burried.... wow.....

Chris and Kristina picked up thier new dog this afternoon. It is a rescue dog call Cali, or Kali, we are not sure yet. She looks like a very nice dog, and has made herself at home. Only thing is, I do not think she has met Balzack or Graham yet..... a little bit of spice to life....

Looks like she know how to play tennis... (no, I did not fly up to Woodstock to take these pictures, I borrowed them off of Kristina's blog....)

Tomorrow is supposed to be back to our normal beautiful weather... lets hope so! We have a Company coming in tomorrow morning to replace our slideout toppers. Lot of people may not know what they are.... they are a type of canopy that cover the top of the two slideouts on the RV. They keep rain and debris off the top of the slideouts. I will take some pictures tomorrow to show you. Our became brittle and ripped, after 5 years of being exposed to the sun, this is about normal. It is a lot cheaper to get the work done down here, that is for sure... :-))
