Finally, the Sun comes back!

Turned out to be not a bad day today, up around 19 or 20 degrees, and lots of sun.

Started the day off by wanting to go and fly my Super Cub… I found just down the road from us a public park that is huge… and is used for kids soccer.

Had a great couple flights with the plane and then decided to mount the wings off of my balsa wood plane onto my new Cub and see if it would fly… sounds easy, right… well not quite…

Seems the new wings did not agree with the Cub and the plane flew very erratic and ended up in a very rough landing…

This picture of my Cub shows how the batter box and landing gear became detached from the plane… not to worry folks… it is an easy fix!

Back to the drawing board!

This is part of the soccer fields where I was flying… I used the parking lot as a landing strip.

Went into visit the Kids, as Judy and Kristina went of shopping for a bunch of stuff, “baby related”.

I cut the front lawn for Chris while he was doing other yard work.

Took Cali back over to the dog park this afternoon for a good run…

She loves fetching a stick… and at this point in time… she was out of gas!

This is a picture of part of the dog park here in Woodstock… it is real big!  Wait till you see what is across the road from the dog park!

Dog Park

Purina Dog Chow… that’s what across the road from the dog park!  I am assuming that they also donated and built the dog park.

Aughhh yes, “Baby Related”…

Working on the newest member of the fleet!

Back about 6 years ago, in April of 2005, I required  emergency triple heart bypass surgery in order to keep living!  At the time I was employed as a Bank Manager for Scotiabank, and after surgery I had about 3 months to re-cover.  I badly needed something to do to fill my time… something that did not take a lot of physical effort, as you can’t do much at all after that kind of surgery.  So, I went down to a hobby shop in Orillia and purchased a Piper Cub Model Airplane that came in about a million pieces and decided to put it all together.  I also bought all the necessary equipment needed to fly it, like a motor, transmitter, receiver etc…

I think it took me about 2 months to build it, and I thought it turned out not too bad… after all I did have a lot of time to spend on it!  After I finished it, Judy and I took it down to a big parking lot and I wanted to get that puppy flying!  Well, after numerous attempts, it did not happen… couldn’t get it up in the air at all… that was life at the time!

Fast forward 6 years, and after a great winter down in California where I got “into” flying… I came back home and got out the old Cub!  Maybe now I can get it to fly!

So I started work… it needed a few things done.  Today I fixed up the control surfaces… the rudder and the elevator.  They needed adjusting.

Also, after charging up the transmitter, I was able to fire up the plane using one of my helicopter batteries!  It worked great, and I will probably use one to fly it!

I also stopped into the local hobby shop here in Woodstock and picked up some needed little wee screws and nuts, and a new prop for it.

100_0100

This plane is made of balsa wood, and then you put like a shrink wrap coating over the balsa… makes for a nice smooth finish.   Problem is though, you do not want to crash… will cause quite a bit of damage… will work on this soon!

This is now my new project, to get this plane in the air and finish up old business I started 6 years ago!  I will not rest until it flies!

100_0101

We made our way around Woodstock today, and found out that it is known as the “Dairy Capital” of Canada… Check out these cows they have downtown…

This one is by a Health Centre…

100_0103

At the other end of the Main Street, this one has it’s own pedestal!

100_0106

This afternoon, I took Kristina’s and Chris’ dog, Cali, down to the dog park for some exercise… she had a great time.  I also got Cali a new bone, as the one I got her last fall was pretty much done…

Here she is giving the new bone a workout!

See, this picture is taken with our new LG Smartphone, and the quality is slowly getting better as I figure out how to do it!

Not much difference to report on the weather front here today, plain lousy.  Supposed to get sunny and warmer tomorrow… here is hoping!

Till tomorrow…

What is with this weather???

Just not a great day here in Woodstock… This morning it started raining early and just kept at it.  Turned cold… the whole bit!  Go figure… Makes a Man start thinking about going to Desert Hot Springs…

I went into Woodstock to check out the revamped Canadian Tire Store this morning… they are have a weekend grand opening… they had lots of stuff on sale, but not much what I needed.   Did get a new hummingbird feeder if it ever warms up here…

Spent the rest of the day doing some work inside the RV.  We have a small leak into our kitchen area from all the rain, and it seems a faulty piece of trim outside may be the culprit!  Have to wait for the sun to come out.

Went in and had supper with Kristina and Chris tonight… Kristina made these great home made pizzas… check them out…

100_0098100_0099

They were yummie…

That was about it for a dull day…

Till tomorrow…

Just a little bit of weather today…

This morning I was all set to do a bunch of outside work around the RV but the pitter patter of rain on the roof stopped me…

Judy was doing cleaning around the RV, and I ended up just sort of taking life easy on the internet and playing with my new LG Phone…

Kristina helped me set up Email and Facebook on my new Smartphone this afternoon, here we are playing duelling computers… Judy snapped the picture with our new phone… just a bit of backlight though…

Kris and Me

This afternoon we went into Woodstock for a few errands at the Bank etc… and while I was at Home Depot, big time wind hit Woodstock with a bunch of rain… it was wild for a short time!

Judy cooked up a big pot of chili this afternoon so we could enjoy it while watching the Montreal Hockey Game tonight!  I snapped a pic of her cooking with the new phone in the RV but had the shakes real bad… got to improve on these pictures!  Tomorrow!

Judy Cooking

There was a trailer with an awning out at our park, and the awning is now on the other side of the trailer!

Real sad to report that Al and Kelly from

TRAVEL WITH THE BAYFIELD BUNCH)) have lost another one of their dogs, Max who passed away today.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Bayfield Bunch tonight…

Till tomorrow…

Getting around Woodstock…

Lots of rain again today here, however the sun came out late this afternoon, and it turned out quite nice…

We had a couple ducks walking outside the back of our RV this morning, and I think Patra was checking them out here…

100_0083

This morning was spent setting up all the stuff in our RV and clearing out our basement… we have a nice shed now, so I moved a bunch of stuff out there!

Took a walk around the park tonight and took some pictures…

100_0085100_0086

There are a couple little cabins people can rent to stay in… better than a tent I guess!

100_0090

They have a nice rec hall, and kids area… the rec hall if full of classic cars, as the Park Owner is a member of a car club and parks a bunch in there for the winter.

100_0093

At the far end of our Park, there are a bunch of homes that are inhabited year round!

100_0095

We picked up Kristina this afternoon and did a bunch of stuff around Woodstock.   Judy and I were able to go and vote here in Woodstock for our Home riding of Parry Sound/Muskoka.

Picked a few little items up at Home Depot, and stopped in at the Bell Store as I wanted to see about improving our cell phone plan.   Ended up getting a nice new LG Smart Phone…an Optimum Quantum… sounds kind of out there… it is the C900B and does just about anything you every want your phone or laptop to do… Big learning curve here!  Now I have something to do for the next month or two!

100_0097

Watched Montreal beat Boston tonight, and just started watching Vancouver try to beat Chicago in game 7… wow… Vancouver just scored!

Well, looks like more rain tomorrow…

Till tomorrow…

We found a new home!

Judy and I did a bit of scouting around today, and we have found a new home!   We are now located at Willow Lake Park.  It is a real nice RV Park, only  a couple miles out of Woodstock, and only a 10 minute drive to Kristina’s and Chris’ home, who are probably much relieved that we have moved our monster motorhome out of their driveway.  We only threatened a few times that we were going to stay the summer…

Our arrival was not without some problems, as it was raining here big time today, and when I was backing into our new site… we kind of sunk!  Ron, the Owner of the Park, was a great help and brought his tractor over and pulled us out and got us set in our new site… we have a couple ruts that will need a weeee bit of repair though…

100_0078

Our lot looks a lot better from this side right now…

100_0079

This park has a nice swimming pool and hot tub and rec hall, so should be a great place to spend most of the summer… we do have some little trips in mind.

Here is the last RV Park we stayed at… oooppppssss, sorry, this is Chris and Kristina’s home, with Mom and Dad freeloading in the driveway!

100_0062

Wanted to post a picture we took on Saturday night, while visiting good friends, Debbie and Gerard in Kitchener.  They have 3 dogs for the next while, as they dog sit 2 of Gerard’s Son’s dogs while they move… they have their hands full.

100_0067

I don’t know about where you are, but for the next 5 days here it is going to rain, and then rain some more… April showers bring May flowers I hope!

Must give a big welcome to Doug R and DearMissMermaid, who are our latest blog followers.  Welcome to RVlifeonwheels!

Till tomorrow…

Easter with Family…

Hope everyone enjoyed Easter Sunday.  We had a great day, starting off by attending Church Service in Woodstock with Kristina and Chris.  We loved watching our Daughter play a Flute Solo during the Service.

Soon after, we hit the road for a 2 1/2 hour drive up to Orillia to visit my Mother.  Had a great visit, and looked through a bunch of old family photo albums… no digital cameras back then…

Here is our Daughter, Kristina and Chris in Orillia outside Granma's apartment.  It was a great day weather wise in Orillia this afternoon.

100_0070

We had about 18 or so out for dinner tonight up in Orillia… had a great time.

100_0071

We were at a restaurant called McCabe's.  They put on a good spread for us tonight.

100_0072

Just made it back to Woodstock tonight at about 10:00, and it has been a long day… so that results in a short blog!

Till tomorrow…

Tomorrow we are heading up to Orillia for Easter Dinner with our Family, so another busy day!

Happy Easter everyone…

“Oh Canada…”

Yes, we made it back to Canada at 4:05 this afternoon.

We woke up early in Flatwood, West Virginia this morning, and it was warm… hit the road by 8:30 after we packed everything up!

Lots of hills and valleys as you travel this area… Judy is the photographer today…

103_0050103_0051

Out of the blue, as we were motoring through Pennsylvania, this guy pulls in front of us with his lights flashing and stayed there for a couple of miles… we did not know we were THAT big…  seems the truck he was leading was right behind us!

103_0053

As you get up near New York State, you start to hit wine country… lots of vineyards…

103_0055

Judy got all excited when she saw the flag just a flying!

103_0057

I got all excited when I saw this…

103_0058

We had a great border crossing… the Canadian Custom Agent was in a good mood, and checked our passports out, and then was asking me how much it costs to fill our Motorhome up with diesel fuel???   He forgot to ask us the standard questions like how much we spent and how much booze and  smokes we have… oh well…  maybe next time.  We were soon on our way…

This is Lake Ontario, as you hit Burlington… the water level seemed high this year…

103_0061

And here is a bit of a pet peeve for tonight’s blog… as we were motoring through Pennsylvania, we sit up nice and high in our motorhome.   It gives you a chance to see other people as you pass them.   In a 5 minute stretch along Interstate 79, I cam across a Lady driving by herself, while she was reading her book attached to the steering wheel, and if that was not enough, just up the road, another lady was driving by herself, and typing up a text message as she swerved all over her lane!   Both these Ladies were travelling at 65 to 70 MPH.   I find it hard to believe.  Do they not think that they are putting other people’s lives at risk… or do they simply do not care???    They must care about other people’s lives, so in reality they must think they can drive at 70 MPH and text or read without any problems!   Oh boy…

We made it up to Woodstock, Ontario, and are parked in our Daughter’s driveway tonight!  Good to be back in the homeland… even if it is freeze your butt cold here!

Till tomorrow…

On the road again…

After a fantastic visit with the Hollinger Clan in Tennessee Judy and I hit the road this morning leaving Tennessee…

We travelled about 6 hours today, and stopped for needed supplies at Wal-Mart, and arrived at the KOA in Flatwood, West Virginia.   It is a real neat little spot, with a bunch of outlet malls here.

Little Paige was up early and playing with her new Laptop we got her the other day… she was in a great mood!

103_0037

Emmie slept in this morning, and was horsing around with me and her new microphone we gave her… she may be on Canadian Idol one day…

103_0038

We hit the road shortly before 10:00 a.m.  It was raining when we left, but dried up a little later on.

As you leave Tennessee, you hit Virginia, and then West Virginia… here we are crossing a great big bridge over the New River! (It’s a long way down)

103_0042

Lots of mountains in West Virginia, and lots of coal mines… oopppsss, that is our radio antenna cutting the picture in half…

103_0043

We stopped in Flatwood, at the KOA, which is part of a large hotel here… set up the dish to watch the Montreal Cdn. game tonight, only to find it is not on tonight… oopppsss…

103_0045

A neat little KOA, we are among the group of RV’s in the centre of the picture.

103_0047

This is a large hotel complex that is set up for business conferences…

103_0048

We made it up to enjoy a swim and hot tub before our dinner…

103_0049

Will take life easy tonight, and hit the road tomorrow morning! (I can almost see Canada…)

Sad to report that Al and Kelly lost one of “The Bayfield Bunch” today… Checkers was a great Dog that Judy and I met at Borrego Springs this past winter.  Our hearts go out to Al and Kelly.

Till tomorrow…

Our last day in Tennessee…

Lots of the go today being our last full day here, started off bright and early by heading out to Warrior’s Path State Park by myself this morning as everyone slept in, and flew my Super Cub for 45 minutes… great morning for it!

By 10:30 this morning it was hot, and ended up washing up the Jeep and getting a whole bunch of California Desert off of it… just a bit of dust and dirt left over… nice and clean now though…

Judy and I went and did a bunch of shopping in early afternoon, and then it was pool time… Paige has her own little water table!

103_0001

Shawn and Jenn’s neighbours were over for a Pizza Party with us tonight and all the kids had a ball… so did the big ones…

103_0004

Little Paige was chilling out in her little chair…

103_0010

while the big kids enjoyed the old sprinkler…

103_0013

Simply nice Tennessee weather… all the pictures tonight are taken with our new Kodak Easy Share M550.  I picked it up from the Target Store this afternoon… it was on sale for $34.00, go figure!  We needed a new disposable and it seems to work just great!

103_0015

Cara has Paige all in knots…

103_0027

Trying to teach Paige how to walk… so far she is not real interested… it will come…

103_0028

Judy and I picked up Paige a new LAPTOP!!!!!  It seemed to work better than my HP… even played music and all kinds of stuff… Paige was right into it!

103_0034

Just a great way to end out Tennessee visit!  We will run into them all again at the end of May as we help them unload the big truck in Ottawa!  Times are a changing for them!

Will hit the road north tomorrow morning and who knows where we will stop???

Till tomorrow…
