Our plan is coming together!

We were up early this morning... 6:30 for some reason.... still dark out. I was doing my typical reading of the Toronto Star... (on line of course...) when Judy came out of the bedroom and told me I should be out getting pictures of Stone Mountain. I said... "ya, right..." Last night, I was checking the front doors of the RV to make sure they were locked, and I looked out at Stone Mountain, and figured out the clouds had lifted, and the mountain was exposed. Also there was a brilliant light up on top of the moutain. Well, had to put my cloths back on, grab my flashlight and camera, and head out... here is a pic of Stone Mountain at about 11:30 p.m.

I thought it was kind of cool, and then this morning after the Toronto Star was beat to death... I stumbled out of the RV and took a picture of the mountain from the same spot, without clouds again! Here it is....

We enjoyed our stay at Stone Mountain, however, it is time to move on. We headed south out of Atlanta towards Mobile, Alabama. Just south of Atlanta, we came accross a Government Building with 2 military helicoptors on the Roof! Judy snapped a quick pic, and you can see one, but there was two up there!

We crossed into Alabama around mid day, and the drive was great. Very little traffic on a four lane separated highway. The speed limit is 70 MPH however everyone only wants to go 60 or 65 MPH... hard to believe. In Ontario, they would want to go 85 or 90 on a highway like this... go figure.
Later in the afternoon, as we got closer to Mobile, we cam accross a hugh bridge that crossed a wet land (bayou...???...) It was real neat. Judy was driving the rig, so I grabbed the camera and snapped away... Here are some of the pics.

The bridge had to be over 5 miles long...

It was a big wet land...

Meanwhile, back in Georgia, they are home to KIA. They have a hugh production facilaty in Georgia and here is a pic on the fly...

You only see about 1/3rd of the whole thing here...

We got to Mobile around 3:00 p.m., (actually 4:00 p.m. but we have slipped an hour behind all you people in Ontario...) and got our camp set up. We are at another Passport America park, and this one is only $9.00 a night, and is full service. It is in the middle of a forest down here, but somehow I managed to get both our satelite dishes set up, so as we type right now, Toronto and Carolina are tied 4 all, with 7 min. left in the 3rd.

Judy captured me putting up the internet satelite dish...

I know.... I look pretty serious...

The header of the blog today says it all... our plan has come together... here we are, in the deep south, I am BBQ ing dinner in my short sleves.... enjoying the warms temps, and we are thinking of going for a bike ride!

Judy looked at the maps, and we are only an our drive from Pensacola, Floriday, so we are stopping our travels for a day or so, and tomorrow we are breaking out the bikes, and we are going to drive down to Pensacola and have a cola.... no just kidding.... we will go and check out the beaches and shoreline drives! Tomorrow's forecast is sunny and 20 deg. C. so should be good for biking. Saturday is call for rain all day, so we plan to stay put in Mobile at this park, and then on Sunday, we may head down to New Orleans, and stay and day or two and check out the French Quarter and whatever else looks good. This is what we like about our plan for travel, we make it up as we go along!

We had a small disaster today, when our power cord broke on our GPS.... this is no good! We stopped at Wallmart for some supplies, and low and behold, I checked out the electronics section, and they still sold our GPS (TomTom) and they also had a replacement car charger kit for $25.00! Sold, and our problem is fixed. Without the GPS we simply would have had to return to Gravenhurst and stay there period! Now at least we can move on!

Thanks to Kristina for suggesting on the comments that the tree in question is probably a sicamore tree! (Spelling...) I think she may be right.

We met lots of nice people today, one couple I spoke to at lunch time at a Flyin J Truck Stop, were from Coburg and were down and heading to Florida until March.

Met a nice couple from St. Sault Marie, Michigan tonight in our park, and they were real nice, and we discussed all kinds of problems the U.S. and Canadian Govt.'s face! Solved 3 of them.

That is it for tonight... Overtime is looming in the game... Hope Toronto wins...

  1. Enjoy your bike ride to Florida! Sounds like you guys are pretty good at making up your plan on the fly - you always seem to find fun things to do :)
