We made it to the "Lone Star State"...

We were up bright and early this morning after spending yesterday afternoon touring the French Quarter.... and no, sorry Kristina, we did not hear or run across any type of French language, but did run across a lot of French related pictures and art...

This morning started out kind of warm, we noticed it right away. I knew something was up, because as Judy came out for breakfast at 7:30, she was wearing shorts! Turned out to be a beautiful day, more on that later.

As we left New Orleans, heading out the west side, you get t see all the Levi's that control all the water. New Orleans is built really, below water level, hence all the problems when the
"big" one hits....( AKA Katrina)... Judy snapped a couple of pics as we were leaving New Orleans from the cab of the RV.

They have these canals all over the place to help drain and get rid of water, and control the water levels... kind of crazy... what you end up with is a bunch of bridges. They have bridges everywhere.... on the highways, in the cities, all over.... when we left today about 25 miles west of New Orleans, we crossed a bridge that was 20 miles long! It went on forever! All that to cross a huge swamp! It would be about the equivalent of starting the bridge in Bracebridge, and when you get off it, you are in Orillia!

We stopped for an early RV lunch at 11:00 in a Wallmart parking lot, and yikes, did it get warm...we had to open all the windows to get some air moving. This was by far the warmest day we have had since we left Canada 23 days ago. Not sure how hot it got, but had to be 27 to 29 degrees C. and we love it! Bring it on!

This pic is from the 20 miles bridge...

In the afternoon, we finally hit "Texas", the Lone Star State. When ever you need a Casino, just look for the closest Gas Station, and it will have a Casino attached to the back of it....really!

The "Lone Star" of course...

The more we drove today, the hotter it got, yet, I resisted the urge to turn on the "air conditioning" .

We decided to call it quits at about 2:00 this afternoon, after 6 hours on the road, and found another Passport America Park just off Hwy. 10 for $17.50 for the night. It has full cable TV, and Wi-Fi, so I did not have to put the dishes up. Best of all, our site is right on Hidden Lake. It is called that, as they built a fence around the park to cut down on noise I guess....

We sat outside for a couple of hours to take in the afternoon sun, and simply relax...(you can do that when you are retired!) We walked around the park a bit. It is pretty well full, and the owner told us they are full most of the time due to the oil workers staying here... I guess they move around place to place. They only have about 5 sites for drive ins...

On our walk I managed to sneak up on this guy and grab his picture using the "digital zoom" on our small camera, so it might be a bit fuzzy.... him and his buddy were flying around our lake this afternoon.

Very enjoyable day, back on the road again tomorrow, heading west into Texas!

Don't forget to look at the map below to see where we have been....
