On your mark.....Get set......GO!

Today was one of the nicest day I have experienced since coming south this winter. I tried, but could not find a cloud today and wow...was the sky blue...I never heard the final high temp. for the day, but I figured it must have been closing in on 80 degrees F. or in the 26 to 28 range C.
Had a chance to talk with Shawn, Jenn, Emmie and Judy today on Skype. Emmie was simply a dancing fool for Pop Pop on the video. They had a nice day, but not quite as nice as in Tucson.
Judy has been busy taking pictures and they emailed me a few for the blog tonight.
Looks like they headed over to Emmie's gym! She loves to bounce...
She likes to hide in the closet at home, so why not at the gym....

They have been busy, and here you can see all the family got into it at the pool!

Today was Saturday, so it was off to the races for me. Headed east on Hwy 10 down to the track and they were warming up when I got there!
This is the main control tower that keeps track of all those times and winners and losers!

That is the front gates you come through off in the distance. Today was the first race of the season for the track, and they only charged $5.00 to get in. All those trailers and RV's in the foreground belong to the competitors...

This was a real quick Camero...

There were quite a few Camero's out today, and none of the drivers seemed to like their back tires as they all seemed to want to smoke em off....

It is not a great picture of it, but yes, that is an open cockpit Jeep running against the car, and that Jeep was no slouch... it smoked the car.... that Jeep runs the 1/4 mile over 130 MPH!!Now Judy better know what this car is! It is a 1966 Mustang. In teal, no less. Some of our friends might remember Judy and I had one just like this, except it would not do a wheelie like this one could! Judy and I had this car when we were dating back in the early 1970's and I still remember drag racing out on the 5th Concession of Orillia with Allan Stevenson with his Mustang.... well hardly drag racing, we both only had 6 cylinder engines....

And to test every one's memory, my Brother Richard had one of these cars... I can't remember the year, maybe 1972 or so, Dodge Super Bee. Man could those things smoke the back tires, with the 383 cu. inch V8. This particular one was very fast...

This was a real nice VW bug all done up, but it never got out of the pitts.... to bad.

I talked to the owner of this Vette, it was real fast, maybe even faster than your Tom! He tours all over the south running this thing at local tracks and has a ball. He must have weighted over 250 lbs himself, so it must have had a big motor!

Yup, Mom and the kids got involved. Here Mom is sending her Daughter off at the start line. They had a category for the kids 8 to 12, and 13 to 17. The 8 to 12 year olds were running about 45 miles an hour, while the older ones got up to about 65 mph. They had some kind of go cart souped up motor in them.

Something happened to this kids ride on the starting line, and he needed a tow back to the pitts...

Every time I go to one of these races, some kid always comes out with Dad's car, (or truck) and hammer it down the track! Hope Shawn never did this with my car.... hmmmmm..... this truck was not even fast, only doing the 1/4 miles run at 17 seconds and 75 mph...

All in all it was a fun day out at the track, but it did get pretty warm sitting in the stands...there was not a bad turnout of fans... but this race did not include the top fuel NHRA Dragsters, they won't be here until March when we are gone :-((

And yes, I did wear my earplugs the whole time I was there, you needed them today! They set the track up right in the first place, as the wind prevails from the west, and today there was a nice gentle breeze that kept all that tire smoke on the other side of the track away for the stands.

Watching the Olympics tonight, still waiting for Canada Gold at this point!

Till tomorrow...
