We were up and at it around 7:00 a.m. this morning, and as we were getting ready to leave Lake Havasu, Judy went out and took a picture of the Lake....
We headed up the 95 north, and soon ran into the I - 40, so we turned left and headed for Tennessee.... we stopped for a minute at this truck stop, and Judy was laughing as they had a "Gentleman's Parlour" as part of the station.... yipee!
There was some neat rock formations as we headed east across the upper part of Arizona...
You can see where they had to cut out the mountains to get this section of the highway through... I thought it looked like the Egyptian Pyramids....
Looks like they had to cut away a good chunk of mountain here... this was on the way to Flagstaff, and if you remember, Flagstaff is about 6,500 feet in altitude, so we were back into the snow for a bit.... it is still a little cool up here, and a bit of snow still around... not as much as when we came to visit the Grand Canyon...
We stopped in Flagstaff for some diesel fuel, and it took quite a while to pump in $150.00 worth,-especially when you are in t-shirt and shorts, when it is real cool outside... Judy looked out the window of the RV and took this picture of the sign at the Quality Inn, right next door to the gas station....not sure if you are able to read it, but it says "No Train Noise" and then right below that it says "Martians Welcome".... someone had a sense of humour...
We made it about 50 miles to the east side of Flagstaff, still in Arizona, and we almost got hit by a Meteor! It only missed us by 50,000 years! Yes, we are at what they call Meteor Crater, Az.
This big chunk of meteor hit here in the middle of the desert and made a huge hole in the ground that is still there after 50,000 years... you can check out the web site at www.meteorcrater.com and see the big hole...They also built a new RV Park here, so we stayed the night. With our Passport America membership, it is only $14.00 for the night here... :-)) and they give you a discount certificate to get into the Meteor Museum and viewing area... yes, they charge to see the crater...
This building is the office for the RV Park and a bit of a store...
We are going to stay the night, and decide if we will go see the crater or not tomorrow... Listened to the Leaf's lose tonight on XM Radio.... yuck... only two games left in this season... :-(( oh well, there is always next year!
As I sit and do up the blog, it is only 38 Degrees F. outside, and getting colder... burrr.... we have our heater on.... only problem with this park is it is also at about 6,500 feet in altitude....
I have to thank Judy for being the photographer for the last couple of days, as I have been too busy driving the big wheels and listening to hockey games....
till tomorrow....
