Another great day in California, and time for another tour.... today's target, Balboa Park, The Jewel of San Diego!
Balboa Park is a great spot. It is a 1,600 acre park in the middle of San Diego. The City has spent big money developing this area and it shows. It all started back in 1915 when San Diego was host for the San Diego/Panama World Expo. San Diego built all these buildings for the Expo which was a big success and lasted 2 years. So these building are now 95 years old, and the City has spent a lot of money fixing them up so they last another 100 years.
The buildings are great!
I found this tree in the middle of it all....There are flower gardens all over the place...
There was a section on robots, and Judy met a famous one.... C 3Po
This was a big display and research project, on how the world was populated in the beginning... It all started in Africa and moved out from there... they have tracked it all...
We found a great place to eat our picnic lunch... lots of people around the whole park!
I thought Germany would be giving out free beer, but no.....
This was an Iranian band playing in the open... they were not bad....
In 1915 they also build this incredible outdoor Pipe Organ. They still use it today, and every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. is a free concert in the park. There was a children's choir singing when we got there, and then we stayed for some of the organ concert. It was great!
Hope this gives you an idea of what Balboa Park is all about. There are countless museums, Theatres, things to do... you have to go to experience it, and you need about a week to see it all.
All in all, a great day!
Till tomorrow....
