We made it! PCH - Pacific Coast Highway #1

Told you I would be sitting here drinking my coffee this morning! It was a great morning, lots of sun and real warm. It is very surprising the difference in temperature between here and Sacred Rocks Reserve! They are only a little over 60 miles apart... One nice thing though, is we get to experience everything as we travel. Sacred Rocks may be a bit cool and windy now, but in the summer time, people would probably drive over each other to get there and cool down a bit!

We had a great view for coffee today, and the bay was nice and calm...

Judy told me to take this picture of her running like a "crazy person" down the beach, so she could rub it in to "Buthead" back in Bracebridge.... (or is that supposed to be Beavis.... can't remember which is which...)

As you can tell, the water was "ice cold" as Judy checks it out... I heard through the grapevine that Mary Demerling actually had her motorcycle out in Bracebridge in the last few days... wow... things must be looking up with the weather...

After breakfast, nothing was going to stop us from taking out the bikes, and finding the Pacific Coast Highway! What a day for a ride - hot - no wind - and lots of good old sun... As we headed north out of San Diego, we first came across a tourist stop, Mount Soledad. These next pictures are from the top.

There is a Memorial set up at the very top in remembrance of Service Men and Women.

What a great view from the top of this mountain... you could see for miles... this first view below, is looking south at the downtown area of San Diego, the water front you see is the bay our campground is located on...

Sitting just north of San Deiego is the the city of Del Mar... it is quite big as you can see, and has a big downtown area...
Below the Memorial, they had pictures of Service Men and Women to whom this site was dedicated...
This is a view, looking north, up towards Los Angeles.
We worked our way north, and made it up to a place called Cardiff by the Sea, where we stopped for lunch. We found a nice park area. It was very busy, and everybody seemed to want to go "Surfing.... Surfing U.S.A." as the Beachboys would sing...
This was the view from the bench we sat on to eat, looking north again, up to Los Angeles...
As we made our way north up the PCH, we passed many homes that would be in the Million Dollar plus range.... for the rich and famous... that is for sure... don't look for any pictures of them, as you know, how does it look when some guy comes along from Ontario on his bike and starts taking pictures of your home.... I didn't want to have to explain myself to security or police...
This next view, is looking south down the beach towards San Diego. It was very busy, and there were lots of students on the beach today, so we figured it was probably part of Spring Break.
As Judy noted, look at all the people out in the water, however there is not really a lot of surfing going on...
As we sat and had lunch, this Sheriff's Helicopter flew by, and was broadcasting a message for a man they were looking for who was out surfing....
And it is just not a normal day in the U.S. until the Marines show up and do their thing!
We had a great day. We passed through many small Towns as we headed north up #1. Del Mar, Solana Beach, Cardiff by the Sea, Ponto, Carlsbade, Encinitas, and we stopped at Oceanside for ice cream before heading back south towards San Diego. When we got back Judy got her magic marker out and scratched another one off of her bucket list! "Pacific Coast Highway" Although we only did a small portion, we took a "big bite out of life today" to quote David Reid!
Made it back to the RV in time to sit out for happy hour down at the waterfront, and also ate dinner sitting outside.... not hard to do when it is about 29 degrees C. After dark we enjoyed some fire in a can, and then it was inside for the blog!
Till tomorrow....
