Riding in the desert.... again....but on our bicycles...

First I better offer my apologies to all the readers in Ontario, and particulary my friends in Bracebridge and Gravenhurst.... all the reports we are getting here say you are getting hammered with a bunch of snow..... and I hear a lot more before the end of Friday.... yikes. Andy Jackson emailed me tonight from Red Deer, and they are at -35 degrees C. Good for you Andy! Get the long johns out!
We had not a bad day weather wise... all sun, but a little cool, I think it only got up to about 17 or 18 degrees today. This morning around 10:00 Judy and I braved the cold, jumped on our bicycles and decided to head out and do some 2 wheelin in the desert. Here is Judy....

One thing I love about Arizona is the mountains, can't get enough of them... and I love living near them and looking at them every day.... these ones are only a couple of miles from where we are staying....

We biked up about a mile or so, and we came across one of the main irrigation canals that feed water to the farm fields in our area.
This is the canal, which is all made of cement and goes on for miles....

Judy insisted on another shot with me in it....by the time we got back to the resort it was way too hot for the coat I am wearing... back to short sleeves :-))

This is a picture of the pumping station that keeps the water moving down this canal...

There is also a small dam that they installed that is used to control the flow of the water....it is right beside the pump station...

Once the water makes it to the fields, they have pipes that run down each furrogh of the field and the a bunch of sprinkler heads, and before you know it, it is just like watering your lawn... same idea, and kind of neat to see. You know when you drive by a field with the sprinklers going, as it is quite a bit colder when you are on the motorcycles...

The tracks run beside the canal and this guy came along.... yes, those are Tropicana cars full of Tropicana Orange Juice, heading for Ontario food stores! You can't tell from this picture, but these trains are about a mile long, and usually have 1 or 2 more engines pushing from the rear!

We came across this federal building which takes care of the wild animals in the area....

This afternoon our carpet guy showed up, and we have nice clean rugs in the RV again... almost even dry!

I spent about 3 hours doing maintenance on the motorcycles this afternoon. Oil and filters for both of them, and complete check overs. We are putting on lots of miles, so we want them in tip top shape. Tomorrow is supposed to be about 20 degrees and sunny, so we are planning on a trip up to Quartzite possibly. That is where the RV's all gather out in the desert and just "live".

Should be good.

We made it to happy hour today again, and noted a few new people checked into the resort today! One lady flew from Edmonton and was real happy to be here.

Well, I would love to carry on, but the hot tub is calling, have to go drown my sorrows as my poor Leafs lost to Boston, AGAIN, tonight.... boo- hooo.... Oh well, there is always Saturday Nights game for them to redeem themselves.
