No, we are not just sitting around....

We continue to enjoy our time in Florida this winter, today being just a fantastic day weather wise! Who wants to sit around all day inside an RV anyways...right!

 

Yesterday Tom and Cheryl joined us as we took a little trip up towards Lake Wales, to visit a new wine shop that had opened just recently. Had a great time.

Fiddlers Ridge Farms opened a new Winery in an industrial complex, that had a big "now open" sign on it, so away we went.

Here is Tom and Cheryl, along with Judy, as they belly up to the wine bar inside the complex. They will pour you samples so you can get an idea of the types of wines they are brewing. I did not partake in the wine tasting, as I do not drink wine at all, and besides that, someone had to pilot the Cruze.

They make fruit wines, and they got to sample Blueberry Wine, along with some Orange, and Honey Wines that they made. Judy reports they tasted pretty good. They gave us a tour of the production facility, along with all the vats they do the brewing in, and also how the bottling process works. Great way to spend some time on a warm afternoon.

Today we headed into Frostproof this morning, to enjoy "Orange Blossom Car Show". Turned out to be a big hit with everyone, as more people were at the show, than live in all of Frostproof!

 

Above is a picture of O'Hara's Automobile Restorations, located right on the main street in Downtown Frostproof, and they had a big hand in organizing this event. There was all kinds of cars, over 200 on display.... antiques, hot rods, the whole bit. We brought our Chevy Cruze, but for some reason no one came to look at it! Go figure!

Seems people were more interested in the fancy ones, like this old 1/2 ton above all decked out!

 

It was great to see all the old cars you used to own... yes, I had a couple old VW's like above...

I fell in love with this older 66 Corvette Convertible. It was in perfect condition, and the sign in the window, was the original price tag at the dealers lot. This car sold for $5,200.00 brand new! Wow...

That is Tom above, talking to the owner of this 1970 Rolls Royce. It was in mint condition. We talked to the Owner for quite a while, as he told us all about the car's history. Well, turns out it used to belong to Jimmie Paige, front man for Led Zeppelin! It is an original, with the right hand drive no less.

He knew the whole history of the car, and how it worked. He has owned it for 28 years. His wife bought it for him for his birthday. Pretty interesting takling to him.

Judy wanted to buy this truck, but said it was no good to her if she could not reach the door handle to get in the darn thing...

It was a great day to spent looking at cars and dreaming a little... had a blast.

Catfish Creek Preserve State Park

Time to go for a little hike today, and we thought we would take on the Allan Edward Brousard Catfish Creek Preserve State Park. Thinking we had never been here before, we were surprised to figure out we had in fact been here 2 years ago, but all was good, and we headed out for a hike anyways.

Not a real long hike, just 6 klms around the Florida Scrub Land, looking at a bunch of different little lakes on the preserve. This Park is meant as a home for a bunch of Florida Wildlife, including Deer, Wild Pigs, Armadillos', water birds, regular birds, and you name it, maybe even some Florida Panthers.

 

As you can see above, lots of scrub land, little lakes that we walked around, and a very sandy loamy type of soil on the trails. A lot of Florida is made up of this type of soil, and the orange trees thrive in it.

Judy is getting ready to climb up that huge mountain of a hill in the picture behind her...that is about the biggest hill you will find in Florida... People come to this park with their horses, and it is a great spot for riding. No charge to get in... perfect!

You can see a water bird in the picture behind me... we stopped at this little lake, and enjoyed our lunch on the bench... good old egg salad sammies....

 

After the hike, Judy wanted to head over to Lake Alfred, another small town in Central Florida. She had heard about a store over there full of old stuff.... or, I mean antiques!

 

It was a nice spot to walk around for 1/2 an hour or so, and would be fantastic if you wanted a bunch of old antique furniture. They refurbish all of the stuff themselves, and no, I did not take any pictures inside, way too many people here, so you have to come yourselves to see.

Well, we had to stop on the patio for an ice cream cone!

Turned out to be a great day, that we enjoyed!

Yup, that is a River Otter in the file picture above. When Tom and I were walking this morning, we saw one located in the small pond, right inside our Park! They eat fish, so came in to feed probably... I heard there may be two of them. Will see if we can get a real picture of one for you.

Now, that was a Super Duper Bowl...

Whew... did everyone enjoy watching that Superbowl Game??? I knew it was going to be a good one, when it was tied at half time.

Oh ya, did you catch the half time show with non other than Katy Perry?

I thought she did a pretty good job. I have always said, "if you are invited to sing at the Superbowl, come with your best!" She did. She sang a lot of the songs that helped make her a big star! I hate it when the stars come, and want to sing their "new music" at a big event like the Superbowl. She also had great effects, like when she flew around the field on her jet platform!

The best part was the game itself, in the 4th quarter. Who would have expected the Seahawks to throw the ball when they were only half a yard out, to win the game! Wow... you have the best running back on your team and you do not give him the ball and tell him to get it into the end zone! Hard to believe. Two Coaches had to sign off on that play... If I was the team owner, I would be looking............

Judy cooked up a great big pot of Chili, so we invited Tom and Cheryl, Roger and Teri over for the big game. Tom and I did not have much to do in the afternoon, so we took the big screen TV he had out in his shed, and rigged it up to sit on my RV ladder, so we could enjoy the game sitting outside. He didn't have the actual stand for it, as it sits on a wall mount. Zip ties are the best thing ever invented.

We got it all set up, and enjoyed the game...

Turned out to be a fantastic night to sit outside here, and we watched to the end! Love Florida nights!

Oh, and yes, I might have been cheering the loudest for New England when they were handed the game at the very end! Take it any way you can get it!

Ontario got hammered today with a big snow storm... take care everyone up there!
