A little bit of everything for everyone!

Get yourself a double double this morning if you are sitting down to read this blog posting, as it may be a bit long today.... lots of pictures if you are into that...

First of all, thanks to everyone who has been reading the blog. Since we left Ontario on Nov. 1st, I have been posting daily, and place a counter on Nov. 4th. Today we exceeded 1,000 hits on the blog in less than a full month. Yikes. It is has been fun doing the blog, and I love to receive comments on the blog, being good bad or ugly, as it does encourage me to carry on. Never thought for a minute the blog would get 1,000 hits a month!

Today was another great day in Az. Lots of sun and a high of only 19 degrees C. One of our cooler days since we got here. This morning while Judy was doing the swimming pool thing, I took life easy and sat out with our neighbour and solved a few problems of the world while sucking up our vitamin D.

I also took a walk around the park and decided to take a few pics and post them.

These flowers were on a "hedge" down by the front office. Don't have a clue what you call them but I thought they were pretty neat.

A couple mornings a week the guys get out and play ....

Here is a mini cactus garden down by the front office. Lots of cactus in the park, and I learned my lesson today, I decided to head out to take these pictures, and brushed against our neighbours plant, and had to go back in, change my shirt, and pull quills out of my chest and arm. Not pleasant, but you learn. Judy learned the hard way also. Now we watch for them!

On the east boundary of the park they have some nice palm trees...

This is the view when you look to your right when you are beside the above palm trees...lots of desert and the distant mountains....

Couldn't resist this pic of this 1977 Honda Goldwing that a guy had parked in front of his park model. I guess I had a week spot for it since we had one of these for quite a few years. Ours was in much better shape though....

We have lots of park model units in the park and I really liked this one. There are a few for sale, and seem to sell for about $35,000.00 Then you have to pay your park fees on top!

I came across this RV in the park and thought it was funny! A lady named Linda, drives from park to park and offers Dog Grooming services. Why not!

As you can tell by this picture by the front Office, they love Canadians, as that is our Maple Leaf flying at the same height as the Star Spangled Banner!

Here is my favorite picture of the day. This is "Beep Beep". He is a Road Runner, and you can find him hanging around the pool and front office first thing in the mornings. All we need is a coyote and we could make a cartoon!

My neighbour told me about this place called "Arizona Markets" and Judy and I fired up the bikes and headed over this afternoon, only a 10 minute drive. There were over a hundred different vendors set up under these roofs.... it was amazing... Lots of people, and it was warm.

Judy got me to take this picture of this booth that had all this stained glass stuff for "Marilyn". Judy told me she is right into this kind of stuff...

At one booth they had these terrific chairs, very light weight, and had their own side tables. We wanted to buy them, but no way we could strap them to the bikes even after they were folded, but hey, no problem here in Yuma, the salesman delivered them right to our RV.

Here is Judy scoping out the next booth to hit...

I took this pick of the Corvette this morning, that was parked in our Resort. It reminded me of Tom Reece who has one of these... I liked his plate.... he was from Montana.

Well, that ends another great day in Yuma! We enjoyed the hot tub again tonight, and have no plans for tomorrow! Love it!

A trip back in time!

This morning I was up, bright and early, as I had to be at the Chiropractor's Office for 9:00 a.m. That means leaving the RV at 8:30... you think it might be cool out at that time of day on your motorcycle on Dec. 2nd. but not in Yuma, Az. Made it to the Dr. Office, had my treatment, and then made a quick stop at Radio Shack for some high tech stuff, that I did not want to spend money on, well, at least the amount they wanted. After that I had wanted to drive out to Pilot's Knob. What a name. I had learned of the place from a blog that I read. It is a neat spot, and I found a few things there. 1st is a great big Casino... they are abundant around here. I decided to leave my money in my pockets and carried on past the casino. Here is a pic of Pilot's Knob.

It is a very unique mountain, and people boondock all around it. (Boondocking, for the rookies in the crowd, is when you take your RV and just park it in the middle of the desert on a chunk of land with no hookups, water, or anything. You bring everything with you. Many people do it. It does not cost a dime, that is why it is popular among some RVers...)

The water you see above is a man made canal, off of the Colorado River, and feeds a hydro plant nearby.
This picture is a dam they use, also acting as a bridge for the road.

Here are some boondockers, there was a bunch of them.
Another thing, all of this is about 6 miles to the west of Yuma, and is in California! As soon as you enter California, you also go onto Pacific Time, hence another trip back in time for me. They are 3 hours behind you readers in Ontario.

Up the road about a mile from the Casino and dam, is this, the Border Crossing into Mexico, at the Town of "Los Algodones". The people park their vehicles on the American side and walk over the Border. Lots go every day. They buy some cheap stuff and come home. Also, you can obtain real cheap Dental work, and Eye Glasses....why not.

This outlook, was actually attached to a truck and is mobile. The Americans had two of them there to keep an eye on the Border...

I headed for the RV and made it home in time for lunch with Judy and a quick hot tub to rest my weary body.... aughhhh..... feels good!

We decided at 1:00 it was time for some groceries at Wallmart, and a trip to the Tourist Info place in Yuma, and a stop at the Post Office. Can you believe it takes us till 5:00 to do this!!!! What did we do when we had to work?????

The Tourist Info booth is also called the Quarter Master, and is a unique place full of history. Many years ago when the settlers headed west they stopped and passed through Yuma. It acted as a gateway to California. Here are some pics of the museum...

First an old train. Yuma is a central yard for trains, and they all come through here on their way east or west...

ALL ABOARD!

This was at the front of the Building, don't know if it is original or not, but it looked like it...

I tried to get Judy to jump up and drive the chuck wagon, but she said no way.....

I thought this looked like Jed Clampitt's truck.... you know, the Beverly Hillbillies....It is still hard to figure out why I can drive 5 minutes over to Wallmart, and they have their shelves stacked with Canadian Rye, Rum, Vodka, etc. at prices you would not believe. Big 1.75 Litre bottles for $11.95.... crazy.

Last night on the way home from the hot tub, I had my camera and took a picture of the moon as it was full, but was too lazy to get my tripod out, so it looks real hazy... it wasn't.

If you want to receive comments on your blog, it is easy, simply post a picture of yourself doing something, wearing a nice pair of white socks and sandals! Annamarie spotted them in last night blog, and brought the fashion statement to my attention. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE IN THIS PARK WEARING THEM! When in Rome do as the Romans do! (Don't worry, I will lose them...LOL)

All in all, another great day in Arizona :-))

Now that is one TUFF GPS!

Started today off at 9:00 with Judy running out of the RV to go to the pool for aerobics in the pool. I guess they have quite a few go and it is quite popular. She looked more "fit" when she got back an hour later!

While she was gone I was doing email stuff, and received a skype phone call from Kristina, and we were have a good old chat, when Shawn and Jenn and Emmie came on and I videoed a few minutes with them to see Emmie in her new room, and then had a 3 way conference. Love that skype!

After the conference call it was time to get on with the Day! Here is what Judy did: apparently that is a Dr. Oz book...

Here is what I did: the motorcycle trailer was a mess after being hauled over 2,200 miles around Canada and the US, so I spent 1 1/2 hours cleaning it! It is all spic and span now, ready for the next adventure. We use it as a bike garage while we are here, and park the bikes inside every night. Next job..... the RV .... yuck..... it is only a bit dirty, but will take a few hours work.

After lunch we headed out on the bikes, as it was sunny and 25 degrees, (yipee). We wanted to check out some accommodations for friends that may be coming to visit and we found some.... a nice Comfort Inn, real close to us.

Now, get ready for this one.... When we left the Comfort Inn, I was planning a taking a back road into Yuma as we wanted to go and check out a Church, and I had planned the route on my GPS. The GPS was attached to my bike windshield with a suction cup mount, and well, ya, you sort of can guess what happened, I was going like 60 klms. and the suction cup decides it no longer has any suction, and oh- oh.... there goes the GPS....yikes.... I could hear it hit the road under me and my heart just kind of cringed... and Judy had to swerve I think to miss it... Well, I pulled over and ran back to pick up the pieces, and low and behold, there was Lola, sitting on the road, still running my trip, and she was telling me to turn "left" Can you believe it! I now highly recommend the Tom Tom XL One GPS, that is really meant for use in your car, but I try and make it do on my Motorcycle also, why not. It now has a few scratches it did not have before, but is still working fine. Judy just shook her head, and kind of gave me the "you gotta be kiddin look"....

On our way into YUMA, we drove this highway that took us right by this farm land, and you could not believe how much cabbage, lettuce, cauliflower they have growing, yes, in the middle of the desert... They have to irrigate it all, it is unbelievable... hundreds and hundreds of acres... here are a couple of pics.... oh, it is also funny to see the farm fields separated from each other by a row of palm trees...

We stopped to fill the bikes with gas and took this picture showing the Palm Trees in the middle of the farm fields...

We had trouble find the Church with a GPS, so I decided to go to plan B and we headed out to the southerly most Town in Arizona, "San Luis". It is on the Mexican border. We sort of got lost on the 20 miles drive out there, it was all farm fields, and was just perfect weather for bike riding, so we really didn't care... I finally stopped and re-mounted the GPS, tempting fate, and we were able to navigate into San Luis. All the people that work those fancy farm fields come from Mexico through San Luis... It is a busy spot. The Americans also have put up the biggest fence you have ever seen, to keep Mexicans out... Here are some pics of that...

Hard to get close enough to get a picture of the crossing point, but this is it... we were illegally parked... Judy was giving me the "evil eye" and wanted to get moving again....

This is an American border guard at work...

This is a section of the fence... it runs for miles and miles....

Another section with extra steel at the top...

On the way to the town, we came across a satsuma orchard.... they are like orange, or tangerines, and there were thousands of them on these trees... also if you look, we were real close to the Yuma airport, and the U.S. Marines fly out of here, and a Stealth Fighter took off right over our heads and across this orchard, you can see how low he is...

When I was getting pictures of the fence, I found this sign for our Daughter Kristina, she took a bit of Spanish in her day...

On the way back to Yuma, Judy wanted to stop at the Cocopah Casino and double our money.... well no, not really, she wanted to do a bit of shopping.... it was a neat spot, very modern and run by the Cocopah Indians.

You can stay right beside the Casino in your RV. Lots of people were doing it...

We made it back to the RV this afternoon just in time to watch Toronto beat Montreal 3 to zip, to atone themselves for the loss to Buffalo last night. Good game.

Right after the game, about 8:30 we headed to the hot tub that was in full use tonight. Lots of Canadians, and two Americans...

Had my camera and took a couple pics of how people decorate for Christmas...

I like this one... it is kind of hard to take these and hold the camera still long enough for about a 2 second exposure....

Phew.... what a day, time for bed.
