It gets “no better than this”…

WOW… is all I can say… it get’s no better than this, that is for sure… we woke up this morning and enjoyed breakfast is San Diego is nice sunshine and wonderful temperatures… We had to pack up, as we wanted to head up to Carlsbad, as all our business was done in San Diego, other than first this this morning, I drove out to the western part of San Diego, known as El Cajon (pronounced El Cahon…) to pick up a new Air/Rock/Bug Deflector for our Jeep… too me a little over 1/2 an hour and Judy and Patra guarded the RV down at Mission Bay Park…

Our Camp site was just on the other side of the water…

DSCN8136

Birds love it here down south… nice and warm and lots to eat…

DSCN8138

Mission Bay is a great spot and we will be back!

DSCN8142

Judy thinks these are some kind of an “aster” and they are all over the place and are “bright”!

DSCN8149

We drove the 30 miles up to Carlsbad and found us an excellent camp site right on the “PACIFIC OCEAN”  can you believe it???   Crazy…  We love it!   First thing I did was do as everyone else does and put your lawn chair up on the picnic table and view the ocean…  the sites are a little expensive, $50.00 per night, with no services… but it is worth it!  Everyone must do this at least once in their lives…  We will stay tonight and all day tomorrow, and then tomorrow night as well, and will leave for Lake Havasu on Friday!

DSCN8151

Check out the cool bug/stone deflector we got for the Jeep… it hides a dent from the bike incident, so “don’t tell anyone… we may want to sell this vehicle one day… who knows???”

DSCN8155

My Magellan GPS tells me we are 89 feet above sea level, and Judy walked down the stairs to the ocean and took these following pictures…

Yup, that me waving…

DSCN8160

what a day…

DSCN8162

That big white blob in the middle of the picture below is our home!  We had to sit on the picnic table to see over the fence on the sites, as they do not want you walking down the cliff… it is all sand the they are concerned about erosion!

DSCN8163

Many people do not pay attention to the sign below, and will lose their lives from the Rip Currents… it happens all the time here!  This is why my lily white toes will not be touching the water!

DSCN8166

Even Patra got into the action on the ocean today…

DSCN8173

Took these for our son in law, Chris, back in Waterloo… right from my seat… 6 guys spent the afternoon surfing on the Ocean… gotta love it!

This pelican was looking for dinner… he got it!

Everywhere I go helicopters follow me…

P3091491

This is a little distant below, but a school of four dolphins swam by our camp site… that doesn't happen every day when we are out camping…

P3091495

Judy was walking down the stairs to take pictures looking up…

P3091496

Ya, this was the view looking south from my chair this afternoon… the couple next to us, are from B.C.

P3091499

This little guy showed up, and Patra gave him a run for his money!

P3091501

Looking north towards Camp Pendleton  and on to L.A.

P3091504

We tricked our neighbour from B.C. to take our picture from our perch… a room with a view!

P3091509

sorry, can’t help it, it is in my blood…

P3091519

Go figure the picture below would be the last one of the day!  Sorry about the amount of pictures tonight… had to do it!

P3091527

Enough is enough tonight, so let’s try again tomorrow…

Till tomorrow…

Let’s do San Diego!

San Diego probably has the BEST weather overall, anywhere in the United States or Canada, day over day, all year long.  It is a very moderate climate and seems to be stuck around 75 degrees F. all the time, 25 to 28 for you Canuks living your life with the metric system.

Today was no exception… simply a beautiful day with lots of sun and very little wind.  We enjoyed our morning catching up on computer stuff and had a great skype call with Kristina in Woodstock… she of course is very busy these days growing a baby!  That is a full time job!

We had lots of running around to do so off we went later in the Morning on the Burgman.  I wanted to track down a propeller for my airplane, and found a great store, but was advised to buy one on line from the manufacturer to make sure I got the right one.

We wanted to look for an air deflector for the front of the Jeep and I found a spot online, but it turned out to be a head office internet company with no retail outlet.  Oh well…

Next we were off to a mall downtown San Diego to find some cosmetics for Judy.

This was a neat mall with a twist… in San Diego with the great weather, the mall is an outside mall!  I loved it!  You walked up and down the isles outside in the sun just as if you were in a mall…

DSCN8131DSCN8132

This mall has Macy’s, and J.C. Penny and other major anchors… we also enjoyed lunch outside in the foot court!

DSCN8133

Brian at Jack Orr’s Auto Body called us and they had our Jeep all finished and ready to go.  They did a great job and washed and cleaned the Jeep out to boot!  Thanks Brian!

The other day while we were up in Borrego Springs Judy took some flower pictures that I overlooked to put in the blog for some reason…

DSCN8014

These looked like they need another day of so of warm weather to fully bloom…

DSCN8051

and a nice desert lily… to finish off…

DSCN8058

So our plan tomorrow is to pack up and head up the coast of the Pacific Ocean and try to find a spot to camp out on the Ocean!   The weather forecast looks great for doing this…

It is a challenge to get a Shaw Direct TV signal here in San Diego, but I did get enough of one to watch my Leafs lose in OT… oh well, we did get a point!

Till tomorrow…

We got blown over to San Diego!

There was a pile of wind blowing in the desert last night… I woke up around 4:00 this morning, and it kept me awake for a while… finally back to sleep, but up at 6:30 when it really started to blow!  I decided to go outside and take down our satellite equipment before it got blown down!  It actually hung in there pretty good and I got it all dismantled without any incidents!

We had the wagons all lined up and the big wheels rolling by 8:30 after enjoying breakfast in the desert and watching all the sand blow around…

DSCN8104

The clouds were a little ominous over the mountains…

DSCN8106

We decided to head up to the mountain Town of Julian and then onwards to San Diego.  Total trip today was 99.9 miles according to Lola.  I must say, as we headed through the mountain passes, we have never driven in such head winds since we started to this… it was incredible!  The Motor Home was a rockin…

DSCN8111

There is a piece of dessert between the two mountain passes and guess what we found… it wasn’t even raining but there was this incredible rainbow… you could see both ends of it!  Sorry, no pot of gold was found…

DSCN8117

We made the 4,000 foot climb up to Julian, and what a contrast when you get into the trees!

DSCN8120

Yes, we got the motorhome and the Jeep and the Burgman all dirty today, as it was raining on the top of the mountain…

DSCN8121

On the other side of Julian, we picked up Interstate 8 and coasted into San Diego, as it is about 25 miles all down hill!   On the way in we got a phone call from Brian at Jack Orr’s Auto Body and he told us all the parts arrived for our Jeep and asked when we could bring it in!  No Problem, we stopped and un-hooked the Jeep and left it for them… hopefully if all is well, we will get it back on Tuesday afternoon.

We continued with me driving the Motor Home, and Judy driving the Burgman, and made it over to Mission Bay RV Park, right on the Pacific Ocean.  Nice spot.  It was overcast this afternoon as we set up, and Judy took care of a boat load of desert laundry!

DSCN8124

Fancy trees in our park.

DSCN8126

Birds of Paradise… one of Judy’s favourite flowers…

DSCN8129

This is our setup at Mission Bay… yup, got the Shaw Direct Dish up for the big game tomorrow night!   We have reserved for 2 days, and then may head up to Carls Bad, on the Ocean…

DSCN8130

Weather is supposed to improve over the next few days… up maybe to the 80’s… here is hoping!

Till tomorrow…
