REDBOX hits Woodstock!

When we spend the winter in DHS, one of the things Judy and I love, is the Redbox. For readers who do not know what that is, it is a great self serve movie rental machine that charges only about $1.00 per movie! In DHS, they also have all the recent released movies at these machines. One of the best features, is that when you rent the DVD, you can return it the next day to any Redbox machine!

Judy was in Woodstock shopping with Kristina this morning, and low and behold, found that the Woodstock Walmart now has a redbox machine! Yipeeee! I know the hip way to watch your movies now is by downloading off the internet, however we are unable to do so with a 5 Gig limit, so this is a nice way to get to watch movies, without using your limit up on the internet, and do so at a very reasonable price! $1.75 to rent the movie tonight! Way to go Judy!

Still trying to shake this superbug cold I have, but had more energy today, so decided to try and do some maintenance on my motorcycle. I love riding the machine, and I love working on it, and try to do as much as I can myself! So far, so good.

First of all it needed a super duper cleaning, so worked on that. Next I noticed that I had a loose bolt up on the front end assembly. You do not want too many of these... so out came the tools, and I carefully went over the whole machine, ensuring everything was tight and adjusted properly. It was a nice warm day to be outside working, so I enjoyed every minute of it! After reviewing the maintenance portion of my owners manual, I decided it was time to drain, and replace the anti-freeze. Just like a car, this machine has a full radiator and cooling system. You will notice in the above picture the bike is about 2 feet in the air, I love the special jack that I have that makes doing all your own work a whole lot easier when it is up in the air!

The only problem I ran into this afternoon, was a major thunderstorm that rolled through our area! It rained hard for about 15 minutes or so with boom booms to match! Farmers will be happy again! It did put a halt to my maintenance work, and I ended up leaving it tonight, and will carry on tomorrow morning, when it is going to be sunny and warm again! The next week looks fantastic here for weather! Judy got her bike out and gave it a big cleaning today as well!

A nice end to the long Weekend!

You could not as for any better weather than we had this past Canada Day Weekend! Today was simply another gorgeous day, lots of sunshine, nice 33 deg. C temperatures... what more could you ask for!

Seems Judy is coughing a bit, and sounds like I used to... not sure if that is good or not... I have never had a cold as bad as the one I now seem to just be getting over... must have been some kind of super bug that they hand out in Ottawa!

Took life easy in the RV this morning, catching up on a few blogs and enjoying coffee and nice sunshine! We headed into Woodstock to visit the gang, as Kristina had put in a request for a motorcycle ride today with her Dad! No Problem!

Soon after lunch, we found all the gear, and picked out a destination from the iPad... decided to take another ride out to Paris... one of Kristina's favorite spots to visit! Chris was busy working on stuff in the back yard, and Judy was recruited to be the Gwenny watcher as we went riding off into the sunset...

 

Paris is just one of those places you can just keep going back to. Always something new to see, and lots of shops to visit.

 

As it was the Canada Day Long Weekend, some of the shops were closed, but most were open. Different than Woodstock, where everything is nailed closed! Paris depends on the tourist.

We found these two guys keeping cool out back of the restaurants... didn't see them catch anything though...

So, what was Father and Daughter to do in Paris, yup, we found the ice cream store! Canada Day Sundae's for $3.00! They were pretty good!

Enjoyed the rest of the afternoon playing with Gwenny outside and inside, but for some strange reason, I don't seem to have a Gwenny pic tonight...shame!

Happy Canada Day!

 

Happy 145th Birthday Canada! It is great to live in Canada, and we are very proud of it! Weather was terrific for Canada Day Events, held across the Country.

I was feeling a bit better this morning, (I hope so, after a week of this cold...) so we decided to drive out to the Town of Embro and join Chris and Kristina, along with Gwenny at the Annual Embro Highland Games, celebrated each Canada Day, and have been doing it now for 75 Years! These are the longest running Highland Games in Ontario!

I cannot recall ever attending Highland Games, but are we ever glad we went. They were terrific, and a great way to celebrate Canada Day! There were all kinds of activities going all day long...

 

There were a few vendors selling everything Scottish of course...

 

These guys above, are warming up for the rock toss... they toss a 20 lb. rock... the winning throw was over 43 feet on the day... I might have made 5 feet...

They had demonstrations of border collies, herding sheep... were they ever good, amazing to watch.

 

Another great Highland Game is the Tug of war! Teams of 8 to a side were pulling all day long! I really enjoyed watching this one! They take this very seriously.

 

They had a great collection of various British Cars on hand... great to view...

This yellow Lotus, really caught my eye, but I don't think I could actually sit inside this thing, it is so low to the ground!

Gwenny was all decked out in Canada Day clothing, as we all were, but sometimes, enough is enough!

Can't remember what they called this toss above, but I will just refer to it as the old ball and chain toss!

A lady standing by me asked him how much it weighed, and he said the same as her purse!

And of course, it would not be Scottish Highland Games, without the caber toss... it is a lot harder than it looks, that is for sure!

 

Above, the people running the games, made sure they welcomed our American Friends!

As it was real hot again today, at lunch time, we had to find some shade, and the only shade we could find was inside the beer tent! Imagine that! Gwenny didn't seem to mind though...

These two guys above, are shearing a sheep! I have never seen this before, and they did it with that funky looking manual sheering machine... the kids are lined up on the left, to take a turn at the crank. The guy doing the actual sheering was excellent, and he knew what he was doing!

Of course there were bag pipes, they had a competition... the group above is warming up. There was a big highland dance competition as well... just an overall excellent day that we really enjoyed! All the money raised at these games goes right back into the local community! The way it should be!

Hope you had a great Canada Day, and to our American Friends, Happy 4th of July coming up this week! I imagine a lot of Americans are on a long weekend as well as us...
