Viva Los Vegas!

We were all up bright and early today, as it was get away day for Los Vegas. Hit the road at 9:00 and headed north to Flagstaff.... it was not nice in Flagstaff today as the 1st. picture shows you....it had snowed very early today up in Flagstaff, thankfully the roads were bare and we had no problems driving.... we soon drove out of the snow, and back to spring!

Around 3:00 this afternoon, we hit the Hoover Dam. What a place. The Americans are big into security of this dam, and before we could get near the dam, police had to board and inspect our RV, and our motorcycle trailer, plus all the lower compartments on the RV.... we passed and were able to proceed to the dam. This pic below is as we approached from the east...

In this picture you can see the new tourist building on the Nevada side of the border...

It is a big place!

We were able to park the RV on the east side in a parking lot, and we all walked right down onto the dam.... this is a view of the spectacular new bridge that is being built above the dam.... what a bridge... do not know when it will be finished... soon....

This picture is neat, it is looking up from the dam, towards Lake Mead. If you look at the mountains, you will see a large white area at the bottom where they meet the water... this is the high water mark.... as you can see, it is way, way down.... lots of development will do that....

This is an overflow area of the dam, to handle extra water.... it has no use now, as the water does not even come close to overflow....

Judy and Deb walking towards the dam...

This leads to the overflow area, and has not been used for quite some time... Judy and I were here about 25 years ago, and the water was high then....
As we got down on the dam, we looked back and could see our parked home....
You can really see how far down the water level is in this picture...
A pic of the low side of the dam... it is a long way down...
That round building is another tourist trap....
The span of the new bridge is almost finished... this appears to be the only gap...

This pictures shows how high this bridge is... not for the faint of heart...

The dam of course was named after President H. R. Hoover....

We headed into Vegas after our dam visit and we are all set up tonight, with our internet set up. Debbie and Gerard drove in for dinner with us. They are staying at a downtown hotel. Tomorrow we will head downtown and check things out...

Till tomorrow
