Great day for hiking...

Just a great day for hiking today, with a bit of a breeze but lots of sun. Gerard and Debbie have not been down to Highlands Hammock State Park, so that is where we headed this afternoon.

Judy and I were down in this Park about a month ago, but only did 1 of the 9 trails inside. We took 4 different trails today, including this one above which shows Deb and Judy on one of the boardwalk trails. Three of todays trails had boardwalks...

As you can see, there is very dense vegatation in this Park, including a pile of Cyprus Trees. Check them out below.

It is a photographers dream in this park with all the reflections...

It looks like this park would be ripe with gators, but there were none to bee seen here today...

Debbie found lots to take pictures of, as she is shooting above while Gerard acts as "spotter"...

It may be hard to tell, but this big Oak Tree above is still alive, and is now over 1,000 years old! Don't as me how they know that kind of stuff... however the brochure told me so!

Gerard is at least 6 feet tall, so you can see how big some of the trees have grown to inside this great park...

Yes, if you check the tree above, it is a wild orange tree... but the oranges were pretty high where they are safe from the hikers!

So, it sure turned out to be a great day with lots of activities enjoyed by all.

Till tomorrow...

  5. It would take a lot of time - and patience - to count 1000 + rings. How they can tell the age of a living tree is unknown to me too.
