Happy Birthday Judy! Another year under the belt, we won't get into any critical numbers here in the blog, but safe to say it is not a milestone type birthday, where they would send you CPP or anything like that just yet.
So what to do on her birthday? When I asked her, she said "I want to get you a Mermaid!" I said "ALL RIGHT!" So, where do we go for that?
Well, you go to Weeki Wachee State Park, over in Silver Springs, Florida! It is about a 2 hour drive from our RV Park, so we hit the road this morning, and made the Park by 11:00.
Billed as "The Only City of Live Mermaids", they have had them here since 1947 believe it or not!
This is the front entrance to the Park above... they have a natural spring, that goes down over a couple of hundred feet. The water is a constant 74.7 deg. F. in both winter and summer here.
Above is the main spring area, where the Mermaid Show goes on, and you can see the water slides in the back, as they also have a separate water park here!
They have a lot of different events here at the Park, and it is worth the $13.00 all inclusive admission fee! We started off by watching the reptile show...
Ya, I know... more snakes! King Snake above... I learned there are 6 Venomous snakes in Florida! They recommend that you do not touch any snake to stay out of trouble!
We were all laughing in the audience, as the turtle in his left hand kind of relieved itself while being held, and he had to jump a bit!
Not more alligators! This is just a baby, and I got a chance to touch it. It was born in captivity, and is not wild at all, kind of loves all the attention it seems.
This is the only GATOR I want to touch!
Next we took a boat tour down the Weeki Wachee River. It runs 12 miles from here, over to the Gulf of Mexico. Yes, the water is 99.8% pure coming out of the natural spring, and the river is just crystal clear! You would not believe it! Over a Million Gallons of Water a day come up, out of the spring.
I PROMISED MERMAIDS!
What a great performance they put on in the Mermaid Theatre! These girls are just fantastic! If you look, they use an air line to breath under water, as they do not go up to the surface at all during the show! You have to come and see this show! Amazing...
Four hundred people are sitting inside the Theatre, looking out through the glass. It is amazing how they built this theatre... they built it, then submerged it, then pumped the water out of it!
In the second Mermaid Performance, they put on the play, "The Little Mermaid". They do a great job with the Little Mermaid wanting to meet her Prince Charming, and get some legs!
This magic Frog helps her along the way...
They end up out of the spring, and into the theatre... of course the Prince fights off the wicked witch and they all live happily ever after... just like Judy did today!
Thanks to everyone who sent Judy birthday wishes by every which way you can imagine, and then some!
Till tomorrow...
Those old Florida parks are so much fun. They are actually converting Silver Springs Park in Ocala to a state park as well, and there will be lots of changes. They are taking out all the animals, but keeping the glass bottomed boats. Silver Springs is much older than Weeki Wachi however, and some of the animals have been there for many many years. It seems sad to me in a way. Nice to see this park through your eyes, as I have never made it here.
ReplyDeleteA very happy birthday to you Judy! What a fun day.
ReplyDeleteThe Mermaid show looks like a lot of fun. Those ladies must have the strongest ab muscles to be able to stay under water that long and be in constant motion.
Next time we're in that area, we'll have to check out the mermaid show. Looks like you had fun.
ReplyDeleteNice tour of the area, John. Hmm, the mermaid show is clearly a draw.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Judy, sounds like you had a fun day!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Judy. That was quite the Mermaid show in that crystal clear water, pretty amazing.
ReplyDeleteMost Gators don't wanna be fondled anyway so there LOL. Hope you had a wonderful birthday Jude! XO
