This is a beautiful part of our Province, where the Grand River Runs through the Town of Elora. There is a large Conservation area here, where you can easily go and spend the day, or week, or month!
The Gorge runs very shallow, only being a foot or two deep along the way...however the water runs pretty fast, with a couple areas that produce rapids. The Gorge is about 100 feet deep along most of the Gorge area... very nice to hike along.
You can see above, the river is quite wide, and the Conservation area takes in both sides of the Gorge.
Gwenny was all set for hiking, and at least we got to hike in the shade of all the trees along the bank of the Gorge, as it was very hot and sunny again today.
As we were hiking along the ridge, we came across this place called "hole in the rock'! It led down to the water... kind of neat!
Great spot to visit...
There were quite a few holes in the rocks when we started coming down...
Of course we had to stop for a nice picnic lunch... needed shade for this!
You can get an idea of the size of the Gorge above...
We left the conservation area, and drove downtown Elora. It is full of tourist trap type stores, and appears to be doing very well! Nice spot to walk around in...
The Mill above, is right downtown, and on the Grand River... it is being renovated for future use.
While not very busy downtown today, on the weekends this place will rock!
All in all, a great way to spend a day touring around! We had a blast!
Till tomorrow...
Wow - what a beautiful spot!! Looks like a hike is in the future for us. Hope the old knee smartens up soon. In the meantime we will have to enjoy through your camera.

ReplyDeleteIt is one of my favourite spots to go, so scenic and yes very busy on the weekends. The back country drive to get there is awesome as well. So much to see in this area.
ReplyDeleteThat Gorge looks like a nice place for a hike and picnic - great picnics.
ReplyDeleteI sure like Gwenny's style of hiking, makes it real easy to climb back up those stairs.
